Faculty Recital: Tarn Travers and Jaram Kim, violins
Date and Time
Monday, October 28 2019 at 7:30-8:30 PM EDT at Green Center for Performing Arts (GCPA), Thompson, Auditorium
DePauw faculty Tarn Travers is joined by violinist Jaram Kim, a former laureate of the Menuhin Competition, in a program of works for two violins by Eugène Ysaÿe, Sergei Prokofiev, and New York-based Italian composer Paolo Marchettini. The most famous of these works, Prokofiev’s Sonata for Two Violins, is perhaps the most beloved of all repertoire for this combination of instruments.
Also on the program is Ysaÿe’s Sonata for Two Violins, which is rarely programmed due to its considerable difficulty and at times is written in such a way that it sounds as if there is an entire orchestra of violins instead of a mere two. The concert will round out with Marchettini’s Wandering in New York, a set of miniatures inspired by and evoking specific areas in New York City.
